Each year during our annual Riverfest Celebration, the community honors a citizens or group of citizens who have served the community in an exemplary way over the years, exerting a positive influence on the growth and well-being of the community as a whole; as well as each individual member. Our gnomes tend to put the service to others before personal gain or comfort and gives generously of time, talent, and resources without recompense or recognition. The tales of these Dawson Gnomes have been shared in our community every year since 1988. However, the COVID year of 2020, including the lack of a Riverfest celebration and an honored gnome, stopped us from gathering and sharing our stories. As we all know, the folklore of the gnomes also includes the trolls. This year, we have selected one of these trolls, which represents the pandemic and the trials of the last year, as our 2020 & 2021 addition to our legends of Gnometown. We will not be asking for gnome nominations this year, instead we are asking you to share your stories of how we, as a community, have Triumphed Over the Troll in 2020 & 2021. We are looking for stories of how our community members, whether in a group or individually, came together to show their hearts to each other. These stories can be a few sentences or a few paragraphs and tell of our gnomes helping each other in some way, showing acts of kindness - big or small, and coming together to get through the hardships the pandemic caused. We would like publicly share these stories in the coming months and during our unveiling ceremony on Friday, June 25th. Please share with us the moments that brightened your day and the people whose hearts were shown extra big on their sleeves.
You can submit your story below. If your story requires more space, please submit through email: [email protected]. Submissions can also be left at Minnwest Bank, Dawson Co-op Credit Union, and Livestock Systems. All submissions require name, email, and phone number so we can contact you with any questions. Thank you for taking the time to acknowledge the kindness of others!
